Ms. Williams counsels clients with respect to general matters of education law. Ms. Williams regularly advises clients on the Open Meetings Act and Freedom of Information Act. She also frequently counsels clients on matters of student discipline, student rights, student residency, homeless students, immigration and board policy and governance. She has extensive experience assisting clients who are undergoing audits by the U.S. Department of Education’s, Office of Civil Rights and counseling clients on compliance with the requirement of Title VI.
Ms. Williams also has experience counseling clients on employment law issues including handling claims involving constitutional and civil rights issues. She has expertise regarding Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Local Government and Governmental Employee Tort Immunity Act and the Local Employees and Elected Officials Ethics Act. Ms. Williams regularly counsels clients and litigates matters relating to employment discrimination and traditional labor claims, including harassment, wrongful discharge and breach of contract.
Ms. Williams received her Bachelor’s degree with a double major in journalism and history from the University of Iowa in 1995. In 2001, Ms. Williams received her Juris Doctor degree from Chicago Kent College of Law where she also earned a certificate in intellectual property law.
