Ms. Bargnes represents school districts with respect to general education law issues, including land issues, employee discipline and dismissal, collective bargaining agreement negotiations, student discipline, student residency and general board counseling issues.
Ms. Bargnes joined Scariano, Himes and Petrarca as an associate in 2004, after having clerked at the firm since 2002. Since joining Scariano, Himes and Petrarca, Ms. Bargnes’ experience has caused her to appear before local municipal zoning and village boards, the Illinois Department of Labor, the Illinois Department of Human Rights, the Illinois Circuit Court of Cook, DuPage, Lake, and Carroll Counties. Ms. Bargnes has argued before the Illinois Appellate Court. She has defended districts against student residency claims, FMLA claims, civil rights claims and wrongful discharge claims, among others.
Ms. Bargnes is an Illinois native. She graduated from Loyola University Chicago School of Law in 2004. While in law school, Ms. Bargnes served as a legal writing tutor, and volunteered at the Cook County Temporary Juvenile Detention Center where she taught legal rights to teenagers and the Chicago Tribune Editorial Board where she assisted in preparing summaries of the backgrounds of judicial candidates for Board review. While in law school, Ms. Bargnes also served as a research assistant to corporate law professor and former law school dean Charles W. Murdock. Ms. Bargnes received a Bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Illinois in 2001.
Ms. Bargnes routinely presents inservices on various, school law topics to our school district clients and at Illinois Association of School Business Officials seminars.
